97 Buick Le Saber Transmission problem?

my brother just got it 4 mouths ago with 58,000 miles
now with 61,000 on it. With no warning the Transmission want bad .The car was drive like new. Can a transmission go bad just like that . ther were no sign of it going bad . he got it from a dealer but his warranty was up at 3 mouths

that car is 10 yrs old...r u sure it olny has 60k miles... and yes many things can go wrong... got fluid? is it shifting at all.or nothing?
