Auto insurance?

This is a question that has been bothering me for a long time. 2 accidents I was involved in, but not found at fault for (as in 100% not at fault), happened in April 2004 and April this year 2006. In the first case a report was filed by the police and the second one not. Neither incident resulted in me or someone else filing claims against my insurance company. My questions is, in applying for insurance with a different company, do they have to know about these accidents even though my current company didn't have to pay out any money? It isn't a question of how good a driver I am, I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Twice.

If ANY insurance company paid out money to you, they know about these claims.

When a claim is paid to someone, the insurance company paying, reports to the comprehensive loss underwriting exchange, the following information: year, make, model, vin of the car; owner of the car; driver of the car; address of the registered owner, type of loss, and amount paid.

If they ask "have you ever been involved in an accident" then yes, you need to declare it. A few not-at-fault accidents won't hurt your rates.
