Daewoo Matiz engine management light?

My wifes W Reg Daewoo matiz SE+ engine management light comes on after a few minutes driving for no apparent reason, car still seems to be running OK. The light goes off again after an engine restart but lights up again soon after so assume it must be related to the engine temp somehow.
Does anyone have any suggestions about what it can be as I have been all round the local garages and nobody has the right kit/software to download the error codes. Or is there a way to get the code myself?

We have a vauxhall Zafira & have had the same problem. There was something to do with the emissions which we had sorted but the light has remained on for some time. Our mechanic does have the right kit & it's registering as no fault so I guess it's just one of those things in our case. If you're in South Wales I can give you our mechanic's number!
