headlights won't work on a '95 Infiniti. Anyone know how to fix it?

My husband purchased the car roughly 3 months ago. It was used and we were told that it overheats - which it does. But the headlights seem to only work when they want to. They'll turn on for a while (sometimes) only to click off again and then they won't turn back on at all. We've simply avoided driving at night but it's becoming a hassle. Any suggestions on how to fix it? Feel free to mail me for more information. I'll gladly provide it if it'll fix our troubles!
We've replaced the fuses and it didn't fix the problem.

Its not the fuse or the bulb because if it was the bulb it wouldn't turn on. First try to make sure that all the connections are tight and correct. try to find any peeled wire or that its damages. Then if its not that try replacing the relay for the headlights.
