I think that the major players are going to have to look at it with an eye for the future of the planet rather than profits.
and if Tesla could bring the price tag down to something reasonable, I think the big guys would have to put something out QUICKLY if for no other reason than to save face.

Possibly, I read an article about it in Motor Trend. Although it is electric, it does come with a hefty price tag and the fact Tesla can't mass produce them anyway. If it does catch on, all other manufactures would quickley jump on the wagon and start pumping out these things. But its gonna be awhile.
