Know How Much Auto Insurance Coverage You Need

Except for Wisconsin and New Hampshire, every car owner is required to carry some kind of auto insurance coverage just to prove the driver can shell out payment for all accident-related expenses. And because minimum insurance requirements differs for almost every state, figuring out how much auto insurance coverage you actually need is always very challenging. Often, the basic auto insurance requirements do not always keep the car owner covered. Because of this, many drivers think that need to get additional insurance coverages.

Personally, I carry $500,000 on Bodily Injury. I also have a teen driver and another coming right up the line in a couple years. Teenagers cause accidents and I want to be safe.

But besides that, if one of injures or kills someone with our vehicle we will likely be sued. Higher BI helps protect me in that regard.

States should increase their BI requirements. How unfair is it for someone to carry $15,000 and cause serious injury or disability to someone. The costs are actually small for the great majority of people when it comes to paying for $15k vs 50k. I know they are concerned about those on tight budgets but this is a situation where higher limits are better for everyone.

A growing number of people are dropping their auto insurance to try to save money, according to a recent study by the Insurance Research Council (IRC). If the current rate of unemployment continues, the IRC. Many people driving without coverage, it's dangerous to be uninsured. But how much car insurance do you really need? Getting Massachusetts auto insurance is not too hard but there are a few things that you would need to know before you purchase a policy to ensure your car in this state. Last year the Massachusetts insurance Commissioner help the state take a great step forward by allowing a managed competition policy and it is this policy that has opened the door for more competitive rates for cheaper pricing on car insurance.

Most states have the traditional fault-based auto insurance policy system. Currently, New York, New Jersey, Washington DC, Florida, Hawaii, Kansas, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, North Dakota, Pennsylvania and Utah operate under the no-fault auto insurance policy system, also known as Personal Injury Protection (PIP). According to the Insurance Information Institute (III), no-fault auto insurance policy allows each policyholder to recover financial loss from his or her own insurance company following an accident—regardless of fault. The no-fault auto insurance policy system was set up in an attempt to take the fault out of liability and have the accident victims' no fault auto insurance coverage & medical expenses paid by their own insurance companies. This would reduce the long and costly court battles that may be required to determine who was at fault in an accident.

Hayes, I read somewhere that the no-fault insurance policies are hurting the govt. pockets since last couple of years now. Your thoughts?
