Using radar, automobiles are not only able to maintain a safe following distance while the cruise control is on, but if a crash is imminent, the radar can sense where the possibly damaging structure is in relation to your car and help steer the vehicle away from it. That’s right—this is a car smart enough to help you avoid the nastiest of impacts in a horrible crash. And you thought the cars that parallel parked for you were cool.
Other features include headlamps that actually shift towards the direction you’re turning, advanced braking systems, and of course all the top-of-the-line supplemental stuff like airbags and front and rear crumple zones. It’s the sort of thing you can get in a brand new Lexus, but might not be able to find at a used car dealer. Lexus dealerships, however, can offer a number of different cars that have the above-listed safety features and much more. Just because we’ve got belts and airbags doesn’t mean we should stop trying to improve automotive safety. Cars still kill a bunch of people every year, so the safer we can be while in one, the better.
