What kind of car should a future college student get?

Next year I will be attending the University of Kentucky. Currently I live in Columbus, Ohio. It's about 3 hours or so away. It's my first year of college, so I do plan on coming home a decent amount. So, what is a car that is good on gas, and will last for atleast 4 years? My parents plan on spending under 13,000 or so.

I would get something around $6,000-7,000.
If it is in some remote parking lot in college, then chances are it will be vandalized at some point. I know mine did when I went there, so I am glad I had a cheaper car.

Think about a late 90's Honda Civic, Toyota Tercel or Toyota Corolla. Pretty reliable and fuel efficient

DO NOT GO WITH TOYOTA!! I would go with a second hand Chevy Lumina. Thats what my brother uses to drive from here in Clermont County, OH to his school OSU ATI between Columbus and Cleveland. It is fuel efficiant and reliable. But if you cant find one of these, go with a Civic for sure.

Obviously get one that runs on beer, that way it would serve a dual purpose and if it breaks down you can just lay back and get drunk.

Get a 90's 300zx twin turbo and turn that 3 hour drive into a 1 hour drive... sell you parents on the fact that you will have lots more time for homework and they can get a super clean low mile one for 10 - 12k

Definitely try and get a car that will be good with different types of weather! Driving to and from school is important to have a safe car! Especially since you will driving during many of the busy (and snowy) holidays. The roads get really crazy during these times, so I would definitely focus on safety as a top priority! Since you won't be using it too much - I assume - on campus, since you will walk most places, gas shouldn't be a major issue.
