what to buy a 6 year old that likes cars?

Ok, I am the mother of a 19 year old girl, and I don't have any idea what type of car toys are "in" these days, I want to get something for my 6 year old nephew for christmas, all I know is that he likes cars. he is also really smart, I would rather get him something challenging, what gifts are good for 6 yr old boys? any suggestions would be great

How about one of those self-assembled remote control cars? He will have a blast customizing it (painting it, swapping parts, etc) and it's also educational (since he will learn how a car works
