why does my vauxhall zafira 1.6 use so much fuel ,it`s a petrol engine 1999?

I used to have a Zafira, got rid of it because it used to drink the petrol. The vehicle is designed to carry passenger loads so it is geared down in order to cope with this. The problem is that it delivers a poor return in fuel economy and you will find that all MPV's are exactly the same regardless of engine size.

That calculates out to about 23/24 mpg, and it depends tremendously on the use the car gets. If it's the school-run and shopping transport, that isn't a bad consumption. After all, it's a bulky body on, effectively, an Astra.

I'd expect better on longer runs at medium speed, though high speeds will really soak up the juice on something shaped like that.
