Why has my 2004 Honda motorcycle water pump started leaking with only 11K miles on...

...it? I have a 2004 Honda 919 and the water pump is now leaking thru the weep hole. The only thing I did wrong with this bike is to barely ride it (less than 500 miles a year) although I start it up frequently. Also, I used a Prestone (but silicate-free) coolant instead of the Hondaline coolant when I changed it last year.

Common problem on all water cooled bikes.
The water pump shaft is spinning inside of the water pump seal at 50,000 RPM x 11K miles.
Of course it's going to ware out at some time.
The water pump shaft also wares out (gets grooves where it touches the seal).
Most bikes, the seal is replaceable.
Your bike, the entire water pump has to be replaced $145

Storing any vehicle for extended periods of time is very hard on them.It is only a little rubber seal that has gone bad and that is normal for being used as little as yours has.
