Well isn’t this quite interesting? Not long after releasing a series of videos talking about how great it is to use steel in their trucks, we have a report for Reuters that Chevrolet’s next Silverado will be made mostly of aluminum like the Ford F150. The Reuters piece says that GM is looking to use the lightweight material to better cope with ever stricter emissions standards. It doesn’t just stop there though.

While Ford is only really using the aluminum for its F-150, the report claims that GM is going all in and will be using the alloy on SUVs as well, meaning a lighter and more fuel efficient Escalade, Tahoe and Yukon. That seems to be a pretty big win for General Motors and consumers.

As always, we are taking all rumors with a grain of salt, but this at least makes sense. Ford has proved aluminum can work, now Chevy and the rest of GM are jumping in with both feet to maximize its potential. Keep it locked here at AutoTalk and we will be sure to let you know if this rumor turns out to be fact.
