Starting next month, the do-it-all Honda Crosstour utility vehicle will finally receive an optional engine. Soon to serve duty as the base powertrain will be the tried-and-true 2.4 liter DOHC i-VTEC inline four-cylinder and with it, the vehicle’s entry price will fall. Rising will be the Crosstour’s EPA rated fuel economy as the lighter weight and lower output four-cylinder will hit 21 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway. Those ratings are three and two mpg higher than the 3.5 liter V6 model.

When it goes on sale, the 2.4 Crosstour will be offered in two trims: EX and EX-L. Standard features include bluetooth phone pairing, USB audio hookups, rearview camera, projector headlamps and moonroof. When equipped as an EX-L, a leather interior with heated front seats, dual zone climate control and a premium stereo with XM radio. Available is Honda Satellite-linked Navigation. Powering both trims is 192 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque accompanied by a five speed automatic transmission. Only front wheel drive is offered with the 2.4 liter but all wheel drive still remains an option for the V6 Crosstour.
