It is with is a heavy heart that we have to inform you that IndyCar driver Justin Wilson has passed away after battling with injuries he sustained in during the ABC Supply 500 race at Ponoco Raceway. During the race, leader Sage Karem hit the wall and sent pieces of his car across the track during the collision. As racers blew through the debris, Wilson managed to catch the car’s carbon fiber nosecone. After the hit, Wilson veered into the inside wall of the track. Wilson was immediately airlifted, and it was reported that he was in a coma on his arrival to the hospital. He lost his personal fight yesterday afternoon.

Wilson was known as one of the greats on the IndyCar grid, but his racing history spans more than a decade, starting in the ranks of Formula One, before making the jump to American open-wheel racing. This makes Wilson the second driver to die this year after F1 driver, Jules Bianchi passed earlier this year. Wilson is the first driver to die in an IndyCar incident since the tragic death of Dan Wheldon in 2011.
