Praise be. The cool-looking and great handling Honda CR-Z is finally going to get the engine it deserves. Autoblog.com is reporting via Car and Driver that when the next-generation CR-Z arrives in dealers as a 2017 model it will be dumping the anemic hybrid setup it currently holds under its hood in favor of a peppy turbocharged motor. Best yet, it seems that the new 2.0-liter turbo from the freshly announced Civic Type-R is the most likely candidate.

The report says that the engine will likely be detuned, but even the power gets dramatically cut from its 300-plus output to even 250 ponies, it will be a marked improvement over the stock cars measly 130 hp output.

This is all still speculation at this point, but if you were hoping for a new-generation version of the much-loved CRX Si, you may be getting your wish. You just have to wait a few years for it to show up.
