For the last 22 years, Nissan's Pathfinder has stood out as an innovative, rugged SUV capable of handling adventures both on and off-road. For 2008, that capability reaches a new level with an available 5.6-liter V8 rated at 300-plus horsepower and 380-plus lb-ft of torque – the first time a V8 has ever been offered in Pathfinder. The new V8 engine is offered in addition to a 4.0-liter V6 engine. Both engines are available with 2-wheel or 4-wheel drive, giving buyers a wide range of engine/driveline configurations to meet their specific performance needs and desires. The 2008 Pathfinder goes on sale in spring 2007.

Pathfinder also receives myriad other updates and improvements for the 2008 model year, including new front and rear styling, new wheel designs (excluding S-V6 trim), available 18-inch wheels and two new exterior colors – White Frost and Mocha. Inside, Pathfinder adds new features including a heated steering wheel (LE models only), a redesigned center console area, reclining 2nd row seat center section, new illuminated switchgear (all models except S-V6), new trim packages, Intelligent Key with twist start (LE models only), Bluetooth® hands-free phone system (LE models only) and revised Nissan Navigation System with 9.3-gigabyte Music Box hard drive (available on LE models only).

Pathfinder continues to offer standard three-row seating, exceptional storage capacity and is again built on a fully boxed, all-steel frame based on the full-size Armada.

“The V8 Pathfinder adds a new dimension to the nameplate that established Nissan's SUV leadership nearly 22 years ago,” said Bill Bosley, vice president and general manager, Nissan Division, Nissan North America, Inc.
“Pathfinder, with its own distinctive style, available technology features, flexible interior design and now two available powerplants re-establishes its place atop its segment.”

A Powerful And Rugged Adventure Partner
Following the introduction of a new, advanced 4.0-liter V6 for the 2005 model year, Pathfinder is now available with a powerful 5.6-liter DOHC 32-valve V8 engine, producing 300-plus horsepower and 380-plus lb-ft of torque and giving Pathfinder a maximum towing capacity of 7,000 pounds, versus V6-equipped Pathfinders' 6,000-pound rating. The V8 engine package is offered in two new Pathfinder models, SE-V8 and LE-V8, both available in 4×2 and 4×4 drive configurations.

Pathfinder's Endurance V8, assembled at Nissan's advanced engine facility in Decherd, Tenn., is shared with the full-size Nissan Titan pickup and Nissan Armada SUV. The engine's advanced design includes features such as an aluminum engine block with cast iron cylinder liners, chain-driven dual overhead camshafts with silent single-stage timing chain for quiet operation and durability, and electronic drive-by-wire throttle for precise control. For greater efficiency, graphite-coated pistons, microfinished forged steel crankshaft and microfinished camshaft help reduce friction.

Standard on Pathfinder S-V6, SE-V6, SE-V6 Off Road and LE-V6 models is an advanced 4.0-liter DOHC V6, rated at 266 horsepower and 288 lb-ft torque. This specially tuned engine, created for SUV and truck applications, is part of Nissan's award-winning VQ engine series found in the 350Z, Maxima, Altima, Murano and Quest.

The 4.0-liter version features a longer stroke than the 3.5-liter version (92.0 mm versus 81.4 mm), and includes Electronic Throttle Control with secondary mapping in 4LO (4×4 models), Continuous Variable Valve Timing Control System (CVTCS), Nissan variable Induction Control System (NICS), silent timing chain, microfinished camshaft and crankshaft surfaces, molybdenum-coated pistons and lightweight aluminum block.

Backing both engines is a standard electronically controlled 5-speed automatic transmission. The transmission, which is specially tuned for each engine application, features a wide gear ratio spread for maximum acceleration performance and a Direct Control System to provide smooth shift quality.

Pathfinder is offered with several advanced 4×4 systems. Pathfinder V8 4×4 models feature a special full-time XN All-Mode 4-wheel drive system that can instantly distribute torque to all four wheels whenever road conditions warrant (up to 50 percent can go to the front wheels on demand), resulting in optimal traction with improved fuel economy and enhanced cornering capability.

Pathfinder V6 4×4 models are available with a part-time 4-wheel drive system (S, SE, SE Off-Road) or an All-Mode 4-wheel drive system that includes 2WD/AUTO/4H/4LO modes and electronically controlled transfer case (LE).

Enhanced 4-wheel drive capability is offered on the SE-V6 Off Road model. Special features include an advanced 4-Wheel Limited-Slip system (ABLS), which helps limit wheel slip when starting on low traction surfaces; Hill Descent Control, which, when engaged by the driver via a switch, allows for going downhill in both forward and reverse at speeds up to 31 mph (4HI) or 15 mph (4LO) without the constant application of the brake pedal; and always-active (2WD or 4WD) Hill Start Assist allows the driver to stop on a slope, release the brake pedal and not roll back for up to two seconds, perfect for rugged, low-speed off-road driving situations.

Standard on all Pathfinder models is a responsive engine-speed-sensitive power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering system and 4-wheel disc brakes with 4-wheel, 4-channel, 4-sensor Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with G-sensor and Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD).

A Solid Foundation For Go-Anywhere Activities
The 2008 Pathfinder utilizes Nissan's “F-Alpha” platform, with a fully boxed, all-steel ladder frame providing a solid mounting point for the stylish body and the four-wheel independent double-wishbone suspension, as well as a standard integrated tow hitch.

Pathfinder's long-travel front suspension is an all-steel double-wishbone design with coil-over shocks and large stabilizer bar. For smooth ride quality and optimized handling, the rear suspension is an independent double-wishbone design with the coils located on the toe control link (offset spring and shock) with stabilizer bar. SE-V6 Off Road models offer special Bilstein® branded performance shocks.

Standard underbody component protection puts a plate under the radiator, with SE-V6 Off Road models offering extra off-road peace of mind by providing additional skid plates for the oil pan, fuel tank and transfer case.
Wheel packages vary by Pathfinder model. S-V6 models offer standard 16-inch aluminum-alloy wheels with 245/75R16 tires, while 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels are offered on SE-V6 with 265/65R17 tires, and special machine-finished 16-inch off-road style aluminum-alloy wheels with rugged 265/75R16 tires are standard on SE-V6 Off Road models. LE-V6 models offer 17-inch machine-finished aluminum-alloy wheels with 265/65R17 tires, and SE-V8 and LE-V8 models feature special 18-inch machine-finished aluminum-alloy wheels and 265/60R18 tires. All Pathfinders provide a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) and full-size spare tire.

Powerful Exterior Styling
With new front and rear styling, Pathfinder looks even more the part of a go-anywhere rugged and sophisticated SUV. Large headlamps, angled strut-style grille and a sweeping hood hint at the power underneath.

Pathfinder's broad shoulder line, large integrated fender flares covering purposeful wheel and tire combinations and distinctive C-pillar with high-mounted rear door handles give the 2008 Pathfinder its own unique look, while proudly resembling the larger Armada SUV.

A long wheelbase of 112.2 inches allows for a roomy three-row cabin while providing ride comfort and stability. Pathfinder's manageable 192.5-inch overall length and short front and rear overhangs enable drivers to feel comfortable driving or parking the capable SUV on almost any terrain.

Additional exterior highlights include standard roof rails with integrated front and rear grips, rear tailgate design with flip-up rear glass hatch opening and rear privacy glass. Pathfinder also offers side running boards on SE and LE trims, fog lamps (standard on all trim levels except S-V6), heated outside mirrors and power slide and tilt sunroof.

Two new colors – Mocha and White Frost –add to Pathfinder's 2008 palette of exterior colors. White Frost is a special, premium three-stage pearl paint with added luster. Pathfinder LE models also feature new body-color side moldings with chrome inserts.

An Interior Design To Enhance Active Family Lifestyles
The 2008 Pathfinder includes a number of interior enhancements, including a restyled interior with a new instrument panel center stack design, a revised front center console (all models except S-V6), new upper door trim (all models except S-V6), new automatic transmission shifter with special grip (all models except S-V6), new heated steering wheel (LE models) and illuminated switchgear (all models except S-V6). Other enhancements include a new standard color 7.0-inch Multi-Function Information Display with RearView Monitor (all models except S-V6), a new reclining function for the center portion of the 2nd row seat (all models except S-V6). Additionally, a new interior leather color, Russet, has been added.

“Pathfinder buyers are flexible in their needs – one day driving the family to an in-town adventure, the next day going camping with the family dogs,” said Bosley. “The 2008 Pathfinder is a perfect tool for all of those tasks, with 7-passenger seating and up to 64 different seating/cargo configurations.”
