When the dust, mud, snow and dirt settled on the 2011 Rally America National Championship, it was the dynamic duo of Subaru and David Higgins who came out on top. In an attempt to keep their rally heritage alive and strong, Subaru Rally Team (SRT) has once again employed the razor-sharp skills of Higgins to pilot their Impreza WRX STI rally car through the 2012 season. To make sure the conditions do not change so much for the new year, sitting in the passenger seat will once again be Craig Drew to spout off turn-by-turn directions for all six rounds of the Championship.

I’m excited to defend my title with Subaru as we have made some great progress in the development of our STI rally car in the off-season, and so the confidence is high right now,” said Higgins. The current holder of the Mt. Washington Hillclimb record with the STI, Higgins joined Subaru in 2011. Despite his very green stint with the rally legend, the man has been flinging cars sideways since the mid 1990s. His first championship title was the British Rally’s Group N trophy in 1997. On January 27, Higgins and Drew will have to dust themselves off as the first round starts in Northern Michigan: the Sno*Drift Rally.

“The Rally America Championship is a fantastic series with a great mix of events and conditions coupled with a very high level of competition. I expect 2012 to be a big fight but we have the right car and the right team, so I’m really looking forward to it!”
