The 2012 Ford Focus recently received two safety awards from two very prestigious ratings outfits: IIHS and Euro NCAP. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave the Focus its “Top Safety Pick” for its strong construction and standard safety features such as electric stability control, a post-crash alert system, tire pressure monitoring system and the SecuriLock anti-theft system. The Focus’ placement on the “Top Safety Pick” board means that Ford now has a total of 12 vehicles on the list.

The Euro New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) also issued the maximum safety rating of five-stars to the 2012 Focus. The Brussels-based organization bases its ratings on such key items as adult and child occupant safety, pedestrian safety and assist features. These are very in-depth ratings and the Euro NCAP doesn’t issue five-stars that often.

“We were committed from the beginning with the new Focus to design and engineer a vehicle that leads the way both in terms of technology and safety,” said Gunnar Herrmann, Global C Car vehicle line director. “The inherent strength of the new Focus is the structural rigidity of the body and its extensive use of high-strength steels.”
