There’s so much that can be said about this video, but there’s not much room to say it.

“It’s more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow.” We’ve all heard it. Some people get it. Some people don’t. This video is here to set the record straight. Slow car fast. There’s no comparison.

Watching 1980 and earlier stock – other than safety equipment – econoboxes driven in anger around a 10-year-old, rather decrepit Road Atlanta is a sight to see. It’s the last race of the 1980 SCCA National Championships, and the commentators are obviously punchy from a long weekend.

Heeling over like a Sunfish piloted by a drunken 10-year-old reprobate, squealing their stock street tires and lifting the outside rear tire, there’s nothing in today’s car racing that compares. It’s on the verge of out of control at all times, and surprising that more cars don’t go agricultural racing, ripping through the backcountry of Georgia as they leave the track in a cloud of red clay dust.

I could go on, but I won’t. Just hit play, stare at the insanity and listen to the dulcet tones of two commentators who are just having fun. I’m going to watch it again. And again. And again.
