For the second year in a row, two of Saab’s surviving vehicles have earned Top Safety Picks from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The safety evaluation outfit is easily one of the highest automotive authorities in the United States and they have awarded the 2012 9-4X and 9-5 their most prestigious rating. Front, side and rear impacts are simulated while a test of the seat and head restraints on the inside takes place in order for the IIHS to determine a vehicles worth. In order to even be considered as a Top Safety Pick, all vehicles must be equipped with electronic stability control.

“Saab Automobile prides itself on its ability to create vehicles which focus on the safety of the driver and its passengers in real-life situations,” said Per Lenhoff, Head of Safety Development at Saab Automobile. “It is rewarding to be recognized by IIHS for a Top Safety Pick award for two of our newest products.”
