Soon to join the line up of all-new, 2012 Volkswagen Beetles is the hyper efficient TDI Clean Diesel variant. Completing the trifecta, the TDI will work side-by-side with the base, 2.5 and the hot-rod 2.0 Turbo to provide potential buyers with a variety of characteristics to pick from. Powered by Volkswagen’s 2.0 liter direct injected, common rail turbocharged diesel inline four-cylinder, the TDI can provide up to 41 mpg on the highway, 236 lb-ft of torque and an involving three pedals all for a base price of $23,295.

At first, three different trim levels of the TDI Beetle will be offered. The base car can either be had with a six speed manual transmission or for $1,100 more, the dual-clutch DSG automatic. Both versions hold standard features such as 17 inch wheels, bluetooth device pairing, satellite radio, power windows, ambient lighting and keyless entry. For $24,895, a manual TDI with Sunroof can be had and just as the base model, the sunroof variant can be made possible with the DSG for $1,100 extra. The top trim, Sunroof, Sound and Navigation, starts at $26,195 for the three pedal car and $27,295 for the automatic. For that price, buyers not only get 140 horsepower, more than 30 mpg in the city and a competent chassis but satellite navigation and a Fender supplied premium stereo.
