In the early part of 2012, General Motors will put a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) powered truck on the commercial market. CNG holds its benefits over gasoline in the cost department, where a gallon of CNG can run nearly half the amount of gas. GM is currently the only manufacture providing a CNG powered commercial vehicle from a single source: the GMC Savana and Chevrolet Express cargo vans. Alongside those vans will soon be the hauling ease of a pickup.

“Customers want a choice when it comes to fuel because it helps them manage their business costs,” said Brian Small, general manager, GM Fleet and Commercial Operations. The upcoming pickup will be a bi-fuel vehicle, meaning it will have the ability to run on gasoline. This should, according to GM, lessen the worry of vehicle fuel for business owners. “We listened and we are going to move fast to bring a bi-fuel CNG product to market to meet our customer’s needs.” The trucks will be covered under a limited warranty for three years or 36,000 miles with a 100,000 limited powertrain warranty. They will also meet all EPA and CARB testing standards.
