General Motor’s affordable car brand for the people, Saturn, was put out to pasture in 2009 but that doesn’t mean they’re off the radar. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is currently investigating more than 382,000 compact Ions due to a potential steering issue. Both GM and the NHTSA have received nearly 4,000 complaints involving 2004 through 2007 model year cars. According Automotive News, the problem lies with the electric power steering assist, causing a sudden lack of control.

GM had received more than 17,385 warranty complaints for the Saturn’s issue. In 2010, the Ion’s brother and sister, the Pontiac G5 and Chevrolet Cobalt, were recalled for the power steering assist, but not the Saturn. The NHTSA and GM have yet to issue a full-blown recall of the car for the steering issue. After this investigation, there is a decent chance this could happen sometime soon.
