The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recently got their hands on an all-new 2012 Toyota Camry for a full-blown composite safety test. When the dust and debris settled, Toyota’s newest start came out with the highest rating offered by the evaluation outfit: five stars. For the current model year cars, the NHTSA has raised the bar for testing making it much more difficult to earn a five-start rating. Only the strong and safe can survive and the Camry took it with a newly reinforced body structure.

Equipped with a class-leading 10 air bags plus Vehicle Stability Control, Traction Control, ABS, Electronic Brake-Force Distribution and assist, the 2012 Camry is one safe car. Integrated into the standard Toyota Star Safety System is Smart Stop technology with a brake-override system. A tire pressure monitoring system adds to already structurally strong Camry. Toyota themselves are rather proud of the achievement, saying in their press release, “The fact that the Camry earned this five-star overall score after enduring a more rigorous NHTSA testing procedure targeted at raising the bar for overall vehicle safety is testament to the strong design, and safety-focused engineering consumers can expect in the nation’s top-selling car.”
