In the United States, the Hyundai Veloster has only been available for a few months but that hasn’t stopped tuning outfits from getting there hands on a few examples. With some help from Hyundai Motor America, the Korean-based aftermarket company, ARK Performance Inc., has created what they like to view as a road-going rally car. The car showcases mechanical, interior and exterior modifications and proves that the Veloster, with its innovative three-door design and competent chassis, does indeed have performance potential.

“The Hyundai Veloster is an ideal car for enthusiasts with its distinctive design and dynamic architecture,” said Ted Lee, owner, ARK Performance Inc. Headlining the modification list is the unique, twin-scroll turbocharger kit strapped to the internally stock 1.6 liter Gamma four cylinder. Accompanied by a legitimate turbo manifold, intercooler, light-weight engine pulleys and a bigger dual exhaust with ARK RSpec downpipe and test pipes, the new output is a very street-friendly and realistic 210 horsepower. A very modest list of engine parts was all that was needed to increase the once 138 horsepower 1.6 and shows that there is still room for higher numbers. Helping to keep that power to the ground are ARK track-spec coilovers, an upper strut bar as well as larger front and rear sway bars. Stopping the ARK Veloster are bigger, six-pot brakes and making sure every thing will be safe if things ever get ‘too’ fast is a eight-point chromoly rally style roll cage.

The inside and outside of the ARK Veloster are custom jobs as well. The interior is riddled with Alcantara supplied by JPM Coachworks. A custom stereo with subwoofer supplied by Image Dynamics keeps things street-friendly while an ARK body kit featuring new front and rear bumper, side skirts and widened fender flares make sure the Veloster stands out even more than the factory version. Yokohama Advan wheels painted gun-metal grey cut some unsprung weight while Nitto NT05 tires make sure grip will always be present. “Our ARK Performance Veloster will bridge the realm between an affordable sports car and an extreme motor sports vehicle. From the first Tiburon, to the Genesis Coupe, and now with the Veloster, ARK Performance continues to uphold the torch as the pioneer of aftermarket performance manufacturing for Hyundai,” said Lee.
