Ford Motor Company has teamed up with Recycled Polymeric Materials (RPM) to build engine components while furthering environmentally sustainable projects. Gaskets and seals used in future Ford vehicles will be made from recycled goods such as used tires and soybean oil. The material used consists of 25 percent used tires and 17 percent bio-renewable soy.

So far, Ford and RPM have recycled more than 2.2 million pounds of rubber to create gaskets and seals for vehicles like the 2011 F-Series pickup. 210,000 tires in total have been turned into materials and 150,000 pounds of soy have also been used. And not only do these new seals and gaskets help save the environment, they are also lessening the weight on Ford vehicles. This in turn means more miles per gallon of fuel for drivers.
