I'm currently on my parents policy and I'm wanting to move out of state w/o getting my own policy. I wanna stay on my parents policy. Can you do that? I know when you move out of state you have to get your driver's license renewed in that state, but can the car I'm driving have a different state tag, etc. and me live out of state? If it sounds confusing lemme know and I'll try to rephrase it. LOL

Nope, that's the oldest trick in the book. So there you are living and driving in CollegeState, and you get pulled over. Your license says CollegeState, but your car's registration and insurance says HomeState. You'll get a nasty ticket for not having your car reg'ed there and not having in-state insurance. You might get away with it if the car's in your parents' name but it's dicey.

You're not the first person to go off to college :) This is a well known issue, and your insurance agent will have good advice.

Don't be sneaky and try to "fool" your insurance company, because the terms of the policy say that if you're sneaky, they can deny your accident claim completely, and make you eat medical bills and the whole cost of the car. They'll also tell your lender your car is totaled, so (read your finance agreement) they'll demand the full amount owed immediately.
