Is my 2003 Hyundai Accent worth fixing?

The engine in my Accent blew on Monday. Here's the situation. There is still a $4,300 loan left on the car. It has 70,853 miles on it. The heads on the engine can be replaced for $1,500. A brand new engine would cost $3,000 (would make the engine worth almost as much as the car). Or we can have a used engine put in the car from North Carolina (I'm in New Jersey) for $2,000. At this point I only have a temporary job, which ends in March, and cant get a new car. My father is offering me his 99 Nissan Sentra with 150,000 miles on it (I really dont want it, its making all sorts of odd noises plus the car is really hard to drive and I despise driving that car). Is the car worth fixing?

The timing belt was replaced last year at 60,000 miles.

Actually the question is,is it worth it to you.My opinion on this is no,but you say you have a temporary job,I would look for a permanent job, take public transportation & save to have it fixed.Call local parts stores and see if they deal in used engines, with a warranty mind you,I dont't know if you have anything like an AutoZone or an Advance near you, they deal in used warranty engines. If you decide to trade off you car keep in mind that the balance of your loan will be added back to the new loan. Also stay away from your dad's car you'll be back in the same boat you're in shortly.By the way your car only books for $1500. in good shape & low miles. They figure milage at 20,000.per year. Good Luck
