For years, racing fans the world over have been singing the praises of Polyphony Digital and Turn 10 Studios. These are the companies behind such great racing titles as Gran Turismo and Forza Motorsports. While these two companies have enjoyed the limelight, a company by the name of Codemasters has been perfecting their craft is getting ready to try and upset the racing sim giants.

You may recognize the name, Codemasters has made many critically acclaimed games like the Overlord series, Operation Flashpoint and Clive Barker’s Jericho. They are also the company behind some of racing’s most exciting games like Dirt, Grid and most recently, the newest edition to the F1 franchise of games: F1 2012.

With each new game, Codemasters is challenging the norm and pushing hardware farther. At this years Eurogamer Expo, Codemasters have given everyone a look at some in-game footage from their next racing masterpiece, Grid 2.

The video shows a classic Mach 1 Mustang barreling down a coast road, with the player in pursuit. The graphics look amazing, and the physics look well done as well, but the most amazing thing in this video is the disclaimer at the bottom: Pre-Alpha Code. With progress this amazing in pre-alpha state, Grid 2 is shaping up to be one of the defining games for this console generation. No release date has been set, but we are being told to expect the game sometime next summer.
