The next generation of powerplants to motivate the next generation of Honda vehicles took a huge step recently. Both the Anna and Russells Point, Ohio assembly plants began production of the “Earth Dreams” drivetrains that will first been seen with the 2013 Accord. These efficient and powerful engine and transmission combinations will have many Honda firsts such as direct injection and should help the Accord fight strong for another generation.

“This next generation of technological advancements in our powertrains will greatly enhance both driving performance and fuel efficiency,” said John Spoltman, plant manager of the Anna Engine Plant. The first products of the Earth Dreams portfolio are two engines and two transmissions. An all-new 2.4 liter direct injected four cylinder will be paired to either a six speed manual or Honda’s all-new, Ohio built CVT transmission. The Anna plant will also produce a newly developed 3.5 liter V6 that can be either matched to an all-new six speed automatic or, for the purist, the tried and true six speed manual.
