The Honda Civic has a long standing tradition of being one of the most reliable, affordable and best built small cars on the road. When the 2012 model was released however, things went a little haywire. Initially damaged by the car’s removal from Consumer Reports’ “Recommended” list, the 2012 received several similar reviews from journalist around the nation. A test drive by the Wall Street Journal called the car “a betrayal” for its cheap interior and soulless dynamics. According to an Automotive News article, Honda plans to fix the Civic with a sooner than expected “refresh.”

“We take feedback seriously, regardless of who it’s from, and we will act accordingly quickly,” John Mendel, American Honda executive vice president. Mendel told Automotive News that the refresh could take place in 2013, a year earlier than planned. He went on to say that the company was greatly affected by the Consumer Reports comments on the Civic. Shopper volume towards the car have fallen and fallen fast since the report was released.
