Gasoline direct injection will finally reach Honda road cars as the Tokyo Auto Show has proven. The system bypasses the previously accepted multi-port injection for a common rail fuel line, which is highly similar to diesel engines. When the gasoline is put through higher pressure, a higher compression ratio can be used and thus, a more efficient and powerful engine is created. Soon to find its way under the hood of multiple Hondas will be this technology which will first make its way to the robust six cylinders.

Replacing the now used 3.7 liter DOHC V6 will be a newly designed 3.5 liter. Using cylinder shutoff, a two-stage oil pump, the block will not only deliever better fuel economy of nearly 10 percent, but more power will be found as well. With direct injection added to Honda’s world-famous variable valve timing system, V-Tech, 308 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque should at the very least be put to the ground. A direct injection version of the 2.4 liter inline four cylinder will also be put to use. First to find work under the hood of the upcoming next generation CR-V, more torque will be found as well as a jump in economy compared to the multi-port 2.4.
