Wednesday, Kia Motor America announced the signing of NBA All-Star Blake Griffin to a multi-year, multi-million-dollar, contract that will place him as the spokesman.

If you remember back to February, Griffin stole the show at the NBA Slam Dunk Contest when he “leap frogged” over the 2011 Kia Optima. This was the start of a marketing campaign from Kia. Since then, the video has gone viral and attracted over 1 views on YouTube.

Griffin will appear in numerous advertising campaigns for Kia along with public appearances and promotions.

Kia is one of the fastest growing automotive companies in the world today. Sales thus far in 2011 are up 45% compared to last years first five months. In May 2011 alone, their sales jumped 53% to 48,212 compared to 2010’s May. Kia’s share of the U.S. automotive market is skyrocketing just from last year. Up from 3% in 2010 to 3.8% in 2011.

With the addition of NBA All-Star Blake Griffin Kia shows no signs of slowing down. They seem to be pushing out a better looking model one after the next.
