Maserati’s Quattroporte has gotten a bit long in the tooth. The styling looks stale and the engine has been viewed as under powered in the wake of the current horsepower wars, so it is time for an update.

Due to be officially unveiled in Detroit, the new Quattroporte has been reveled in photos. The new car features a design style that melds the best of the old Quattroporte with distinctive cues that bring it more in-line with the sharper Gran Turismo line. We approve. There is little information about what actual changes have been done, but it appears that the wheelbase has been lengthened which would provide more interior space, and we expect the interior technology to much improved with what appears to be pedestal mounted monitors behind the front seats.

The engine of the new car is also being updated, but Maserati isn’t saying anything more than, “all-new next generation powertrain”. We do get a possible clue however, as the rear photo shows a registration plate with QP 530 HP, so lets hope that is a hint. The current engine produces 425 horsepower so a 105 horsepower jump would be most welcome. That horsepower may hint that the new engine is a variant of the V8 currently found in the 458.

As always, keep your eyes here on Autotalk to get all the details as soon as they are available, and take a peek at the new car in the photos below.
