Mercedes will paste Quick Response (QR) codes in models that will help rescue workers save car crash victims, reports Auto Express.

The black-and-white square QR codes will direct smartphones or tablets to a webpage telling them the best place to cut in to a vehicle if the passenger is trapped. It will give information on the location of airbags, fuel tanks, electrical cables, high-pressure cylinders and any other components – such as additional batteries in a hybrid model.

The company plans to place two QR codes placed on the car, one in the fuel filler flap and the other on the opposite side of the car on the B-pillar.

Mercedes is expected to roll out the scheme on new models this year.
