Volkswagen has taken the sheets off of the new Golf GTI Concept at the Paris Motor Show, and we need to get one thing off the table. This is a concept in name only. Based off of the recently revealed Golf MkVII, the GTI is more of the same as far as the line is concerned, with a more aggressive body kit, red grille accent, and those amazing Interlagos Plaid seats. We especially like the new wheel design which seem to be a modified take on the classic “Denver” wheels from the MkVI GTI.

The new GTI will be powered by the familiar 2.0-liter turbo, but VW says power has been raised by a modest 17 horsepower bringing the total number up to 217. The big news for the drivetrain is VW’s claim of an 18-percent fuel economy boost, which should bring the hot hatch up to a rather impressive 36 mpg highway.

Take a minute to browse through our gallery and get a look at the new car. We will make sure to deliver all the details on the new hatch when they become available.
