When Chevrolet announced the new Z06 Corvette they claimed that it would be the fastest road going Corvette ever created, and it was thanks to a combination development with this beast, the C7.R race car.

The C7.R is the machine that Chevrolet will be fielding in the endurance racing circuit over the next few years. It is based on the same aluminum frame as the Z06, and for the first time in history, the C7.R frame will be built in the Bowling Green Corvette plant with the other Corvettes.

Obviously the new car comes with a host of aerodynamic upgrades over the Z06, but the C7.R also uses a different engine. Due to racing regulations, the 6.2-liter supercharged V8 from the Z06 will be dumped, to be replaced by the same race-winning 5.5-liter V8 found in the C6.R.

With more than 90 victories to the Corvette name, the new C7.R has a lot to live up to. It will make its competition debut in one week at the 52nd running of the Rolex 24 at Daytona on January 25.
