When Ford unveiled the new GT supercar last month with its advanced carbon fiber body, active aerodynamic systems and 600+ horsepower EcoBoost V6 engine, we all knew it wasn’t going to be a cheap thing to buy. After all the last Ford GT went for about $150,000. It seems though that with its more futuristic parts and pieces, Ford is aiming for a much higher price.

Car and Driver got a chance to sit down with the head of Ford Performance, Dave Pericak, at the Geneva Motor Show to talk to him about the new GT and he shared quite a few tasty facts. First and foremost, there will be a very limited production run. There are around 4,000 of the last Ford GT running around the world, but for this latest model that number will be reduced to “hundreds.” And then there is the price. Pericak said that, “Price-wise, it’s going to be competitive with the Aventador.” That particular Lamborghini carries a sticker price in the neighborhood of $400,000.

$400k is an awful lot of money to be asking for something with a Ford badge, but Pericak isn’t concerned. He feels that the car’s performance and limited production will ensure that there are buyers lining up for this new slice of American bad-ass. To be honest, I think he is right. There is a lot of new money in the world looking for something insanely fast that doesn’t wear a Prancing Horse on the hood, and this may be the perfect fit.
