If you own a GoPro, an iPhone and a BMW, it may have just gotten easier to record your track day shenanigans. In an odd bit of software synergy that is uncommon in the auto industry, you can now control your GoPro camera through your BMW, so long as you have a BMW-Apps equipped machine. The integration is a little wonky in how it functions, it needs a connected iPhone in the middle to handle sending instructions to the GoPro, but the end result looks pretty great.

If you start the BMW Laptimers app to start recording your lap time, the GoPro will automatically start recording as well. When you stop your lap time, the GoPro stops. That easy. It is more than just simple control for start and stop. You can control various functions and option changes using your iDrive controller on the dash, and the video feed is even streamed to the center display so you can make sure your GoPro shot is lined up exactly how you want it.

No word yet on this coming to Android users, but we will keep our ears to the ground just in case that changes. For now, if you happen to have all the proper equipment, the software update should hit sometime this summer to enable the new functionality. Happy lapping, everyone.
