Nissan’s full-size workhorse, the Titan, is still in its first generation and has been since its 2004 debut. Dynamically, the truck has been a relative success with a torque-filled, hot-rod 5.6 liter V8, beefy suspension and available comfort all for a reasonable price. Even still, eight years is a long time to go without a generation change and early last year, rumors began to fly about the next iteration. Nissan has been bonding with more than a few automakers recently and there were discussions about the current Titan replacement being someone elses pickup. According to an Autoblog article, those rumors can now be put to rest as Renault-Nissan’s CEO, Carlos Ghosen, confirmed the next full-size pickup will be fully Nissan.

The current Titan may be a solid powerhouse, but it lacks the multiple configurations that is found in the Big Three pickups. Just one powertrain is available and as good as the V8/five speed automatic combination is, it doesn’t leave much for customization. When the next Titan debuts, perhaps as 2014, it will change that by offering more than one engine. Nissan is currently working on the next truck and there is serious doubt that it will move away from its southern United States home.
