Nissan Americas announced recently that it will be working with the Nashville, Tennessee based Urban Green Lab. The first community center in the area dedicated to sustainable living, Urban Green Lab has received a preliminary donation from Nissan of $100,000. And to prove that the automotive manufacture is committed to ‘green’ technologies and not to mention its North American base of middle Tennessee, gifts up to $100,000 will be matched for the next three years.

“When Nissan learned about Urban Green Lab’s innovative approach to creating a more sustainable community here in Middle Tennessee, we knew it was a great fit for us,” said Bill Krueger, vice chairman for Nissan Americas. “Today, we’re encouraging others throughout the community to join in supporting Urban Green Lab’s unique commitment to the environment, education and humanitarian aid.”

With plans to open later next year, the community center is a place where the public can learn about sustainable living, energy efficiency and urban agriculture. The building, located in the Inglewood neighborhood in East Nashville, will also feature Nissan provided, electric vehicle charging stations which will be compatible with the LEAF. Dan Heller, co-founder and president of Urban Green Lab is jubilant that Nissan is on-board with the project. “As Nissan joins us as our founding partner, we are sending a message that different parts of our community can come together to support an innovative project that will help our city, protect the environment and change lives for generations to come.”
