The kids over at Autoblog have done lots of math involving monthly sales figures for the various car brands, and they came up with some surprising data. The biggest news of which involves one of our favorite brands here at Autotalk, Nissan.

In what is a very rare occurrence, Nissan has outsold Honda for the month of January. If you take a quick look at the number breakdowns, Nissan had great sales from its all-new Rogue with a 54.5-percent increase over last January. The Frontier nearly doubles its sale compared to last January, but at 2,307 units, it’s still not a huge sales success story.

While Nissan was helped but its new Rogue, Honda was hindered by the Accord and the Pilot. Both vehicles missed their mark produced negative growth compared to last year. Overall, Nissan managed to move 81,472 units compared to Honda’s 80,808.

That is not a huge lead, but it does demonstrate that consumers are paying attention, and Nissan’s updated collection of models are far more appealing when compared to Honda’s stagnant range of vehicles.

While the main brand’s have had a bit of a shakeup, Acura managed to outsell Infiniti so American Honda still holds the sales crown over Nissan of America for total overall sales of a company.
