Back in 2007, Nissan started a project in hopes of changing the New York City scenery. The “Taxi of Tomorrow” team started work on the next generation vehicle that would swarm the tight concrete jungle that is New York. In May 2011, after months of evaluation, Nissan’s NV200 was given the go-ahead to be NYC’s next official taxi. To give its future clients a sneak peek of what’s to come, the company will host its very own design expo for the vehicle with numerous interactive displays to showcase the innovative layout that was made with input from the public.

“Nissan’s NV200 Taxi will be the first taxi in the world to offer new and iconic features developed for, and with, New Yorkers,” said Joe Castelli, vice president, Nissan Fleet & Commercial Vehicles. “The Taxi of Tomorrow Design Expo will offer a first look at these one-of-a kind amenities, which include increased legroom, plenty of interior lighting, and materials that reduce odors and germs while supporting sustainability.” The Expo will begin the first of November, run until the fifth and will be open to the public. Not only was the NV200 born from the ideas of New Yorkers, but input from the Design Trust for Public Space and the NYC Taxi & Limousine Commission were used to finalize the project. Starting in 2013, the Taxi of Tomorrow will begin its 10 year run as New York’s official cab.
