It would appear that New York City is looking to completely revamp its fleet line up with a number of new taxis. Recently, Ford announced that the Transit Connect was approved by the New York Taxi & Limousine Commission (TLC) for taxi duty and Nissan is the next to follow suit with the Altima. Beginning immediately, the U.S. built Nissan Altima will serve as one of NYC’s new four door cabs and do so in various trims.

“We’re excited about the expanded opportunity for New York taxi drivers and passengers to experience the Nissan Altima,” said Nissan’s vice president of Fleet & Commercial Vehicles, Joe Castelli. Joining the already nearly 306 hybrid/electric Altimas currently in use in NYC will be a number of conventional models. The Altima will also be joined by Nissan’s “Taxi of Tomorrow” that will be based on the electric NV200. All New York City Altima taxis, both conventional and hybrids, will be built in the U.S. at Nissan’s Canton, Mississippi and Smyna, Tennessee assembly plants.
