When the 2013 Ford C-MAX Energi Plug-in Hybrid hits the market this fall, it will bring with it a field of “bests”. Not only will it be the most efficient hybrid utility in America, but it beat its rivals in the driving range game as well. Holding the ability to travel in both hybrid and zero emissions mode, the Ford will have impressive stamina in both categories but one might just be more so than the other. While most gas/electric hybrids can only move up to 10 miles in full electric mode, the C-MAX will double that with a range of up to 20 miles.

“C-MAX Energi is a great symbol for the leading fuel economy we’re delivering across our lineup to give customers the power of choice to save money at the pump,” said John Davis, chief nameplate engineer for Ford’s compact cars and utility vehicles. To accompany the C-MAX’s electric driving range, its combined distance is notable as well. With a full tank of gas, the Energi can travel up to 550 miles without stopping for fuel. Efficient indeed, the Ford is also rather useful with seating up to five and nearly 100 cubic feet of passenger space. And unlike its C-MAX Hybrid brother, the Energi Plug-in can be recharged so that small commutes can be accomplished all the time using zero fuel.

“We are proud C-MAX Energi is the first plug-in hybrid that can deliver a 550-mile overall range and more than 20 miles of electric range as it gives customers great flexibility to commute to work, then take off for a road trip while passing many gas stations along the way,” said Davis.
