Across the pond, Ford of Europe has been piecing together a sedan named the Mondeo for decades. Always closely related to a U.S.-spec midsize four door, the car has been earning family’s trust year after year and soon enough, an all-new generation will be revealed. Even though the car’s nitty-gritty details have yet to be delivered, what has become official is what will be found under its hood. By placing the recently born 1.0 liter EcoBoost engine inside the next Mondeo, Ford will produce the largest-ever car to be powered by the award-winning block.

Usually reserved for much smaller city cars like the Fiesta and Focus, the 1.0 liter is small but stout. With aid from direct injection, dual variable valve timing and a low-inertia turbocharger, the three cylinder produces 123 horsepower and 125 lb-ft of torque. When placed in “overboost” mode, the block has the ability to put 148 lb-ft down to the ground while still achieving excellent fuel mileage. When the Mondeo 1.0 hits, it should bring with it best-in-class mpg and C02 emissions.
