Oddly enough, the same truck that can handle the rigors of Moab, deep mud and was once billed as being a suitable replacement for a downhill bobsled is also easy to insure. Each year, the insurance experts at Insure.com release their list of vehicles that are the “Least Expensive to Insure” and for the 2012 model year, the Nissan Frontier pickup has made the cut. More than 900 cars and trucks were under consideration but at the end of the day, just a select grouping of vehicles earned the publication’s accolades.

“We’ve had a lot of fun in our recent advertising showing the Nissan Frontier in extreme fantasy situations, such as skiing down mountains or serving as emergency landing gear for a jet airplane, but the truth is, Frontier is a great purchase option for many practical reasons,” said Al Castignetti, vice president and general manager, Nissan Division, Nissan North America. With plenty of variations offered, there could be a Frontier for just about anyone. With an efficient 2.5 liter inline four cylinder, the rear drive base models can get 23 mpg on the highway. When equipped with the 261 horsepower, 4.0 liter V6, four wheel drive and a six speed manual, the Pro-4X could jump enough stuff that insurance raising trouble could be had. Even if you did manage to bounce over a monument, the just-right Nissan would be ready to go once you got out as J.D. Power and Associates recently named the Frontier the top midsize truck in its Vehicle Dependability Study.

“Our annual rankings provide consumers with a view of the best insurance deals of the year. If you want to save money on your insurance bill and you’re in the market for a pickup truck, the Nissan Frontier is an excellent choice,” said Amy Danise, editorial director of Insure.com.
