Making their way on to dealership floors at this moment are the 2012 Toyota Prius Plug-in models. Like its father, the standard Prius, the latest in the line of Toyota’s hybrid family operates via a small, gasoline engine coupled with a high-torque electric motor. With the ability to operate as a zero emissions vehicle, the Plug-in can not only save buyers at the pump, but it can now help them in the state of California. Accompanying the car’s access into the golden state’s High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV or car pool) lane is the recent announcement of the Prius Plug-in’s enrollment into the Clean Vehicle Rebate Program (CVRP).

In addition to the already in place $2,500 Federal Tax Credit offered for the corded Toyota, the CVRP allows owners of zero emissions and or plug-in vehicles to earn even more rebates. The Prius Plug-in can gain a $1,500 rebate which will be available to individuals, business owners, non-profit groups and government entities on a first come first served basis. Funding comes by way of the California Air Resources Board while official word on how long this will be active has yet to be revealed.
