Nissan’s subcompact, the Versa, is getting ready for its second generation with an all-new redesign for model year 2012. When it hits Nissan dealerships nation wide later this fall, the 2012 Versa Sedan will be available in three models: the 1.6 S, 1.6 SV and 1.6 SL. Nissan North America has released prices for all three models, which start at a low $10,990.

Riding on a brand new chassis, the 2012 Versa Sedan uses Nissan’s new global V platform. Compared to the older, B platform first generation Versa, the 2012 model is 150 lbs lighter and uses 20 percent less platform components. Under the hood is Nissan’s new 1.6 liter, HR16DE DOHC four cylinder which can also be found in the Juke. Available with either a five speed manual or a CVT transmission, the Versa Sedan makes 109 horsepower and 107 lb-ft of torque. With the CVT, highway mileage can reach up to 38 mpg.
