Volkswagen (VW) will produce the 2014 Golf at its manufacturing facility in Puebla, Mexico.

The company plans to start production of the seventh-generation Golf at its Volkswagen de México’s plant in the first quarter of 2014.

Models made at Mexico plant will be supplied to the North and South American markets.

The decision to produce the Golf in Mexico builds on VW’s strategy for the North American market.

“Producing the Golf in Puebla, Mexico signals a continued commitment to the North American market and allows Volkswagen to make further strides towards the goal of building more than 75 percent of the cars Volkswagen of America sells in the NAFTA region,” Volkswagen of America Inc. President Jonathan Browning said in a statement.

The Golf is scheduled to go on sale in the United States in the first half of 2014.
